Week 6! Bringing a bit of retro-inspired synthwave to the series this week. The synthwave genre is a throwback to the synth-laden '80s. If you enjoy the soundtrack for Stanger Things, then you should definitely check out the synthwave genre. I discovered the genre about five years ago; I fell in love with the retro vibes that some of the artists in the scene are creating with today's modern technology.

This week's production is by synthwave supergroup called The Midnight, made up of the duo Tim McEwan and Tyler Lyle. The track is a vocal gem called 'Light Years' and features the beautiful vocals of Nikki Flores (male vocals coming from Tyler). Light, airy and wistful. A great combination of classic and warm sounding synth pads and shimmering digital, bell-like lead lines. Throw in a bit of sax (Thomas Edinger) to top it off... what's not to love?! I'm sure this production wouldn't sound out of place in many of your favourite '80s flicks!

Light Years comes from the 'Nocturnal' EP; it's a much darker, moodier shot of nostalgia in comparison to their debut album, 'Endless Summer', but the pair manage to produce yet another beautiful masterpiece of retro-sounding soundscapes and catchy melodies. If you enjoy this awesome release, make sure you check the rest of their music out!

Bio:

There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass—the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories. The Midnight consists of Tyler Lyle (a songwriter from the Deep South) and Tim McEwan (a producer from Denmark).
